Proton Mail IMAP Setup
How to connect Proton Mail to Mailszen via IMAP using Proton Mail Bridge. Bridge decrypts end-to-end encrypted emails locally for IMAP access.
| IMAP Host | 127.0.0.1 (local Bridge proxy) |
| Port | 1143 |
| Security | STARTTLS |
| Username | your@proton.me |
| Password | Bridge password (shown inside the Bridge app) |
Step-by-step setup
- 1
Install Proton Mail Bridge
Download and install Proton Mail Bridge from proton.me/mail/bridge. Bridge is required because Proton Mail encrypts everything end-to-end — Bridge decrypts emails locally on your computer.
- 2
Sign in to Bridge and copy your credentials
Open Bridge and sign in with your Proton account. Go to your account inside Bridge → IMAP/SMTP Settings. Copy the Bridge password — it is different from your Proton login password.
- 3
Keep Bridge running
Proton Mail Bridge must be running on your computer at all times for Mailszen to sync. Configure Bridge to launch automatically when your computer starts.
- 4
Connect Mailszen to Bridge
Use 127.0.0.1 as the IMAP host and port 1143. Enter your Proton email address and the Bridge password (not your Proton login password).
Things to know
- *Proton Mail Bridge requires a paid Proton Mail plan (Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, or Business).
- *Bridge must be installed and running on the same computer as Mailszen. If Bridge closes, syncing pauses.
- *Bridge is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
