Gmail IMAP Setup
Step-by-step guide to connect Gmail to Mailszen via IMAP using an App Password. Works for personal Gmail and Google Workspace accounts.
| IMAP Host | imap.gmail.com |
| Port | 993 |
| Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | your@gmail.com |
| Password | 16-character App Password |
Step-by-step setup
- 1
Enable 2-Step Verification
Go to myaccount.google.com → Security → 2-Step Verification and turn it on. App Passwords are only available when 2-Step Verification is active.
- 2
Generate a Gmail App Password
In your Google Account → Security, search for "App passwords". Select "Mail" as the app type and name it "Mailszen". Click Generate to get a 16-character code.
- 3
Enable IMAP in Gmail settings
In Gmail, go to Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Under "IMAP Access", select "Enable IMAP" and save changes.
- 4
Connect in Mailszen
Enter your full Gmail address as the username and the 16-character App Password (not your regular Gmail password). Mailszen connects immediately.
Things to know
- *Use your App Password, not your regular Gmail password. Google disabled basic authentication for Gmail in 2022.
- *Google Workspace users: your admin may need to enable IMAP in the admin console under Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail → User settings.
- *The App Password is shown only once. If you lose it, generate a new one — the old one is automatically revoked.
