Step-by-step setup

  1. 1

    Enable 2-Step Verification

Go to myaccount.google.com → Security → 2-Step Verification and turn it on. App Passwords are only available when 2-Step Verification is active.

  2. 2

    Generate a Gmail App Password

In your Google Account → Security, search for "App passwords". Select "Mail" as the app type and name it "Mailszen". Click Generate to get a 16-character code.

  3. 3

    Enable IMAP in Gmail settings

In Gmail, go to Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Under "IMAP Access", select "Enable IMAP" and save changes.

  4. 4

    Connect in Mailszen

Enter your full Gmail address as the username and the 16-character App Password (not your regular Gmail password). Mailszen connects immediately.

Things to know

  • *Use your App Password, not your regular Gmail password. Google disabled basic authentication for Gmail in 2022.
  • *Google Workspace users: your admin may need to enable IMAP in the admin console under Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail → User settings.
  • *The App Password is shown only once. If you lose it, generate a new one — the old one is automatically revoked.
